Lloyd-Davies Position is a medical term referring to a common position for surgical procedures involving the pelvis and lower abdomen. The majority of colorectal pelvic surgery is conducted in the Lloyd Davis position.
Position
It is also known as Tredelenburg position with legs apart; with a 30 degree Tredlenburg and hips flexed at 15* as the basic angle which is adjustable with leg supports.
Advantages
- The position gives good exposure and minimizes pressure areas for longer surgeries.
- It has less side effects of neuropathies as compared to other positions.
Disadvantages
- It can precipitate compartment syndrome in muscles of calves after 5 or more hours of surgery.
